Polar Seafood is one of the leading suppliers of Cold water / Greenland prawns (Pandalus borealis). Most of the prawns from Polar Seafood are caught by our modern trawler fleet. They are processed, cooked, graded and then frozen on board on a continuous production line. The speed of hauling in the catch to having finished product in a box ensures the Polar Seafood brand is the ultimate in freshness.

Habitat
Coldwater prawns are pure delicacies of nature and, unlike warm water prawns, cold water prawns live exclusively on unadulterated food provided by nature. Cold water prawns are not farmed but live wild in the sea. The prawns grow slowly in the ice cold water, giving them firm texture and fresh taste.

Did you know that……
Pandalus borealis is a hermaphrodite, which means it changes sex during its life cycle. It starts off as a male, whereafter it switches to a female and remains female for the rest of its life. The change occurs after 2-5 years, depending upon the temperature of the waters where it lives. The Prawn switches shell around 25-30 times in a lifetime. Prawns are living at a depth between 150 to 500 m.
